How Can You Get Over Heartbreak?

Feeling lost and struggling to heal a broken heart? Read our top tips for feeling better faster.

  1. Give yourself time to grieve: Heartbreak can be a painful and emotional experience, and it's important to allow yourself time to grieve. It's okay to feel sad, angry, or confused. Take the time you need to process your emotions and come to terms with the end of your relationship. Your feelings won’t go away on their own, you have to work through them, so consider journaling about your emotions to help you acknowledge and process them faster.
  2. Seek support: You don't have to go through heartbreak alone. Reach out to friends, family, or a therapist for support. (Read our post on therapy for single parents here) Joining a support group for single parents can also be helpful, as you can connect with others who are going through similar experiences. The Group Chats on the Frolo app are fantastic: why not check out the ‘Dating Advice & Support’ chat?
  3. Take care of yourself: Self-care is important during this time. Make sure you are eating well, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that bring you joy. Exercise can also be a great way to relieve stress and boost your mood.
  4. Focus on your children: Your children may also be struggling with the end of your relationship. Make sure to give them extra love and attention during this time. Talk to them about their feelings and reassure them that they are loved.
  5. Co-parenting: If you are co-parenting with your ex-partner, it can be challenging to navigate your relationship after a breakup, especially when one or both of your are trying to heal from heartbreak as single parents. Try to communicate openly and respectfully with your ex-partner, and focus on putting your children's needs first.
  6. Take things slow: If you are dating as a single parent, it's important to take things slow. Don't rush into a new relationship before you are ready, and especially not before you’ve healed from a broken heart. Focus on building friendships and taking time to get to know someone before committing to a relationship.
  7. Be kind to yourself: Healing from heartbreak takes time, but it's important to remember that you will get through this. Be patient with yourself and trust that you will come out stronger on the other side.
